Data Planner

Job Summary 

Reporting to the Data Process Manager the post holder will drive the effective targeting, segmentation and analysis of all marketing campaigns. They will set the strategic framework for the way in which the organisation conducts its direct marketing activities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities (not necessarily in priority order)

  • Interpret data briefs and supply customer and prospect data for marketing activity
  • Develop and maintain a schedule of all direct marketing and research campaigns, ensuring effective targeting
  • Provide expert advice to the Marketing team on targeting and segmentation
  • Provide expert advice to colleagues in the area of list buying and maintain central control of all third party lists
  • In accordance with the IET’s Data Strategy, ensure customer and prospect data is fit for purpose
  • Set and maintain the IET’s Direct Marketing Policy, ensuring compliance across the organisation
  • Ensure customer data collection strategy is fully implemented
  • Ensure all campaigns are loaded successfully into Darwin
  • Profile and extract data for use in customer and prospect campaigns
  • Undertake data counts for marketing and other teams across the IET
  • Act as a central source for all customer data across the IET
  • Analyse, evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of marketing campaigns
  • Apply analysis and propose optimal contact planning for each customer segment to maximise return on marketing expenditure
  • Undertake any other duties and projects as requested by the line manager
  • Be familiar with the Health and Safety and Fire policies for the company and attend mandatory updates where required

Person Specification

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, with relevant experience in strategic data planning
  • Ability to challenge current ways of thinking
  • Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions
  • Ability to develop procedures
  • Strong proven analytical ability
  • Proven database marketing skills
  • Experience in data manipulation and analysis
  • Experience in project managing external agencies (data bureaux, list brokers)
  • Thorough understanding of customer segmentation and marketing principles and practices
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload and to work to minimum supervision
  • Outstanding IT skills, particularly MS Word, Excel, Access, MS Outlook and email
  • In-depth knowledge of data-driven marketing
  • Good time management skills and ability to multi-task
  • Enthusiastic and self motivated
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Logical thinker

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a membership organisation
  • Degree, ideally in Mathematics, Statistics or Business Studies
  • Proficient in the use of MS Access
