Communities Communications Executive (FTC - Maternity Cover)

To support the Sectors and Communities Department by implementing marketing communications campaigns to raise awareness of activities, support volunteers to be ambassadors for the IET, and train and support staff and volunteers to deliver excellent communications to promote communities’ activities. Support the Marketing Manager for Sectors and Communities to help raise awareness of sector activities.

Hours: 35 hours per week, exclusive of meal breaks, plus as many as required to fulfil the needs of the post

Main Duties and Responsibilities (Not necessarily in priority order)

  • To work closely as part of the communities team to contribute to the continuous development of the communities strategy, and specifically that the empowerment of volunteers is at the forefront of everything we do;
  • Provide best practice leadership, advice and support to sectors and communities staff and volunteers in creating, developing and managing marcomms campaigns;
  • Help develop effective messages to promote communities activities, motivate and inspire volunteers, and influence audience behaviours;
  • Provide support for CRM and marcomms colleagues outside the UK to ensure that tools, resources and best practice are used consistently;
  • Help to ensure that communities email campaigns comply with overarching IET rules relating to email frequency and volume;
  • Support the creation, execution and measurement of high level marcomms campaigns for community and sector activities utilising multiple communication channels (advertising, email, social media, SEO, direct mail);
  • Coordinate the design, delivery and shipping of high level exhibition / conference marketing material relating to communities and Sectors and attend key events as communities/IET ambassadors where appropriate;
  • Monitor the delivery of all communities marcomms to ensure they comply with IET brand guidelines and messages, developing new processes and improvements where required;
  • Help ensure that communities marcomms activities are up to speed with industry innovation and conforming to best practice;
  • Maintain and develop the marcomms tools, resources and templates ensuring they are fit for purpose, and accessible and attractive for volunteers, eg: online marketing toolkit, VADER, Adestra;
  • Develop and deliver training for staff and volunteers to help them use the marcomms tools and resources;
  • Produce the quarterly Sector Newsletters and select the events to be included in the relevant Subject News emails;
  • Lead by example using social media marketing and collaboration practices, training other staff and volunteers as required;
  • Help support the Support team as required – providing additional resource as required for the development and delivery of emails campaigns, programme booklets etc;
  • To manage and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and other organisations as required, eg: designers, printers, exhibition contractors etc;
  • To be familiar with the IET’s data protection policies as they relate to staff and volunteers;
  • Comply with data protection legislation and act responsibly on matters of data disclosure both internally and to third parties;
  • To undertake any other duties and projects at the request of the line manager;
  • To be familiar with the Health and Safety and Fire policies for the organisation and to attend mandatory updates where require.

Personal Specification

Essential

  • Good understanding of marketing concepts, digital and social media marketing, data handling etc;
  • Demonstrable experience of performing in a marketing role;
  • Minimum qualifications to A’ Level or equivalent;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with an awareness of political and cultural sensitivities;
  • Excellent communication skills - written and verbal - with the versatility to communicate effectively at all levels;
  • Excellent command of written English with attention to detail;
  • Strong time management skills, including the ability to work under pressure to deadlines;
  • Good customer service awareness and knowledge;
  • Conscientious attitude with the ability to act on own initiative and problem solve, with proven pro-active attitude and enthusiasm;
  • High level of IT literacy.

Desirable

  • An interest in engineering/ technology/ business, including knowledge of the current commercial/industrial world;
  • Experience of using HTML;
  • Marketing related qualification.
