Business Unit Accountant

Job Summary

Ensuring effective financial & performance management of IET Business Units including business planning, budgets, forecasting, financial control and reporting.  Providing financial expertise to business decision-making.  Enhancing operational performance by linking the finance and operational management teams. The role initially focuses on the Professional Operations Directorate.

Main Duties and Responsibilities (Not necessarily in priority order)

  • Provide focus, drive and support to the annual planning and budgeting cycle
  • Timely delivery and accurate analysis of Management Accounting information
  • Analysis and stakeholder reporting of KPIs
  • Support the Planning, Project Office and Finance teams in providing transparency and consistency across business unit boundaries
  • Assist the Business Unit Director to enhance operating performance, ensure effective financial control and accurate forecasting
  • Proactively identify business risks and issues, and help identify possible solutions
  • Support the development of a project-based culture across the organisation and assist in the production and review of Business Cases and benefits realisation
  • Initiate tasks, agree timescale and prioritise workload with line management and Unit Directors
  • Undertake any other duties and projects as requested by the line manager
  • To be familiar with the Health and Safety and Fire policies for the company and to attend mandatory updates where required

Person Specification

  • Professional, commercially focused accountant with excellent interpersonal skills

Essential Criteria

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Qualified accountant, preferably CIMA. 
  • Broad ranging financial planning experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to make convincing presentations at a senior level.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise own workload and to work semi-autonomously.
  • Good IT skills, including advanced level Excel.
  • Proactive, hands-on and flexible approach.
  • Proven influential and persuasive skills.

Desirable Criteria

  • Familiar with Agresso
