Katy Turff - Relationship Manager, MFH, Stevenage
I started working at the IET in 2002, having previously been employed by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. I was initially employed to manage the relocation from London to the current offices in Stevenage and to develop the new Member Services team at the new site. Joining the IET at such a time of change has therefore been an exciting career development.
I have had a number of roles during my time at the IET and last year was spent working as part of a Relationship Management Team tasked with implementing a customer relationship management system to enable us to more effectively meet the needs of our members and customers.
Our customers are very important to the IET. Individuals, businesses and academic institutions all use the vast wealth of information available from the IET, particularly through publications (books, magazines and online), conferences, training courses, etc. Non-members can also access the diverse range of technical forums on the IET’s website - the IET’s intention being to network the whole engineering community. It goes without saying that introducing appropriate processes and software to such knowledgeable customers has been interesting and challenging!
I have now moved on to the Qualifications Department where I am in the process of creating a service centre based around the customer relationship strategies set in place. In my time at the IET, my feet have hardly touched the ground and there are endless other opportunities here.
The training opportunities are outstanding; I have been on numerous courses and last year qualified as a Prince2 practitioner. Access to Stevenage is easy by road or rail – I commute from my home in North London with ease. The associated benefits are first rate and a good work/life balance encouraged. All in all, a great place to work for anyone with enthusiasm and a willingness to put in the effort.
