Mark Bourne - Sales Office Manager, Austin Court, Birmingham

I joined the IET at Austin Court in 1998, originally in an administrative role. I was able to develop the sales side of the role and, in June 2005, was promoted to my current position of Sales Office Manager.

Austin Court is a beautifully renovated Georgian building sited next to Birmingham’s historic canal network and, along with our facilities in London and Glasgow, is one of the IET’s excellent conference locations.

Whilst I work fairly long hours in my current position, I thoroughly enjoy my role and am continuing to learn and develop. This is fully supported by my line manager, the IET’s Conference and Banqueting Manager, who has enormous experience in the Conference and Banqueting market - experience she is always eager to share.

I joined the IET with very little experience of a commercial environment but have been able to make the transition quicker and more effectively than I would have expected due to the backing of, and training provided by, the IET. With this support, and my increasing experience, I’m looking forward to growing the business at Austin Court even further.
