I notice that the IET is no longer on the list of organizations listed in Engineers Australia's Mutual Recognition Agreement. (The IEE and IIE were).

UK-based institutions on the list include:

The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE)
The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
The Chartered Institution of Building Engineers (CIBSE)
The Institution of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST)
The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE)
The Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS)
The Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA)
The Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE)

Is it possible for the IET to negotiate with Engineers Australia so we're back on the list? Recognition would mean that IET CEng's can become Aussie Chartered Professional Engineers by just filling up a form.

That's great. The other option available to registrants is to have Engineers Ireland recognize their UK CEng (through mutual recognition agreements) and then to get Engineers Australia recognize their Irish CEng (again through mutual recognition agreements). Pretty round about way!

Using one agreement to register with a third institution through another agreement is frowned on and most institutions do not allow it. Our discussions are on going and whilst I would not want to put any timeframe on the process they are certainly not at the start.

Why the MRA between IEAust and IET has stopped.

Is it the same case as MRA between HKIE and IET has stopped in 2006?

Thank you for your comments, just to let you know HKIE and the IET signed a new agreement last year so this is back up and running.

There are a number of reasons for any delay in resigning which mean we need to enter into discussions for example changes to processes, new registration categories, international agreements, and national laws etc which all need to be investigated and potentially addressed in any agreement. The IET is also trying to make sure that any and all agreements that we do sign are of real benefit to our members

Thank you for following this up. At the moment we are finalising the agreement, which we hope to officially sign when our CES travels to Australia in September/October.

In the meantime we are both following the spirit of the agreement. Once the agreement has been finalised and signed I will let you know.

This is just to confirm that the IET and Engineers Australia have renewed the reciprocal registration agreement. Those IET members who are professionally registered with us and wish to become registered with Engineers Australia too are able to make use of this agreement.

As part of the mutal recognition agreement with Enginers Australia the engineer must:

'undertake an assessement to ensure that the applicant understands local practices, legislation,codes,professional standards or other issues not realted to the technical competence of the applicant in the practice of enginering.'

Can the IET provide further information on how we can complete the asessment for engineers practising in Queensland, Australia ?
