Much quoted in news headlines on 31 Jan 2012 was the IET's condemnation of Michael Gove's downgrade of the engineering diploma. Turning to the IET website for the full statement, I could find no reference to this in the most obvious places eg. Press releases.

Paul, I',m glad you picked up on the IET's position regarding the Engineering Diploma earlier this week.
Not all coverage is acheieved as a result of press releases. The President, Dr Mike Short, wrote a letter to the Daily Telegraph in January which set out the IET's position. The main points of this letter was used to brief journalists which resulted in the coverage. I'm happy to send you a copy if you'd like to see it. regards Robert |

I don't think I dreamed it; I'm sure I saw an IET spokesperson providing the IET's opinion, on the TV news.
Whilst it was rewarding to see the IET being consulted on something, I have to confess I found the tenor of the news item disappointing. It's all down to the way these pieces to camera are edited of course, but I was left with the impression that she was defending a course that was on a par with "nail technology" or "golf-course maintenance".
